Today is Global Handwashing Day! This day is to increase global awareness of the benefits of washing hands with soap and water. According to the CDC, washing hands with soap could prevent one in three diarrheal episodes and one in six cases of respiratory infection. It’s one of the simplest things we can do to keep ourselves healthy. I hope you’ll help me spread the word by posting to facebook and twitter.
We’ve been blogged! Check out the review of our Grapefruit Cardamom Lotion, Earl Grey Tea Soap, Cinnamon Oatmeal Soap and Peppermint Lime Scrub over at talented SF photographer, Tiffany Ingram’s website Sunshine Daydream Photography. She took some incredible photos of of Etta + Billie products amongst the San Francisco wilderness. 😉
I am so excited that you can finally purchase Payback Porter Beer Soap on the Etta + Billie website. I’ve partnered with on of my favorite breweries, San Francisco based Speakeasy, to get some fantastic local beer. The beer soap has been months in the making (some of you may have noticed the photos I’ve been posting on Facebook and Instagram) and up until a few weeks ago was only available in select brick and mortar stores and at craft events.
A lot of work goes into the beer soap to ensure that I get a great batch. First, I have to prep the beer by letting it go flat for 2 days. Next, I simmer the beer for about 15-25 minutes to burn off as much of the alcohol as I can. After that, the beer goes into the fridge for 24-48 hours for chill time. Once the chilling and resting phase is complete, it’s time to make some soap! I slowly blend the lye and the beer to keep them from overreacting (they don’t always play nicely together). After that, I can add the lye/beer solution to my melted oils, blend, pour into my molds and then create the beautiful pattern seen above.
I have to say that all the prep is worth it because the Payback Porter Soap has a nutty, malted slightly fresh baked bread scent to it and a wonderful creamy lather. A true beer lovers soap. Grab yourself a bar (or two) and keep an eye on Facebook, Instagram and at the blog for more beer based soaps!
I can’t believe it’s already been a month since my husband and I have been back from my Great Italian Adventure. I am definitely missing the food and the culture (and the food…). I’ve been trying to come up with new products that will help me capture my experience. Pizza Soap anyone?
Last week I spent some time in manufacturing mode wrapping up precious salt scrubs (isn’t the foil pretty?) and whipping up a new batch of Speakeasy Payback Porter Soap (available in a few weeks). I was also lucky enough to drop by the T-We Pop Up for a KiKi (complete with glitter faux tattoos and tea cocktails) after a stroll through SF’s Chinatown to find out that only one Earl Grey Tea Soap remained! Time for another delivery. 😉 How was your week?
Last week at Etta + Billie, I made a fresh batch of citrus poppy soap and geranium patchouli body oil. I visited the fabulous Christopher at T-We to drop off our first collaboration – Earl Grey soap made with their GUURL GREY tea. Yum. Of course my week wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Dynamo Donut (I think its a contender for happiest place on earth). Plus a badly needed pick me up in my vintage espresso cup (still haven’t adjusted to the spring forward time change).
